Item Page Template

From The Escapists Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

This is a template for making an page on a item before you start making pages you should have an understanding of what the usage of braces ({}) are. Braces are used to 'shortcut' a big line of code to make is easier to understand when editing a page and to make the page smaller. You should also have a great understanding of The Escapists.

Stubs

The first thing that will be put on the page is a Stub a stub is used to tell others if the page has little detail and needs more attention don't use the Stub if the page has a lot of detail. Also notice the two braces ({}) surounding the word. If you wanted to add the 'Stub' without the two braces ({}) you would have to use this big line of code:

<div class="nomobile"><br /></div><!--
--><div class="mobileonly" style="text-align:center">This article is a stub. You can help SITENAME by .<br /><br /></div><includeonly></includeonly><noinclude>

This is why we use Stub to make the compress all this code into a single word. Below is an example of what a Stub looks like:

This article is a stub. You can help The Escapists Wiki by expanding it.

Item infobox

The next think that goes onto the page is the item infobox this is used to tell others the statistics of the item it follows like this:

There are many statistics you can use in Item infobox for example if a item has digging of 4 where is says digging you would put the number for after the (=) but if the item has a cutting of 0 you wouldn't include cutting in the infobox. If the item is contraband you would put true after the (=) but if it is not contraband you wouldn't include it in the inbobox. There is also a 'flavor' this is used to describe little details of the item; for example if the item is only found in a certain prison you would write: An exclusive item to (Prison). All this can be very confusing to wrap your head around but once you understand you will be editing pages easily. Here is an example of an Item infobox: on the right:

Item Page Template
96px
This text will display underneath the item image.
Statistics
ItemID: Unspecified
Will be confiscated
Outfit
Consumable Item
Limited-Use Item
Uses 5
Weapon 4 / 5
Digging 3 / 5
Cutting 5 / 5
Chipping 3 / 5
Unscrewing 2 / 5

The last thing to do is click on the red 96px on the infobox and upload the image of the item. So that's all the code done now its the fun part.

Usage

The next thing you want to do it describe the items use. This is done by first starting with the title this is done by writing ==Usage== first, then writing text. Notice the two (==) between the text this is used to tell the wiki to make the text a title. This text can include things like:
The item is used to craft the (Item)
Can be used in favors.
Try to include the most amount of detail in this if you don't have a lot of detail use the Stub as shown above.

Obtaining

This is very simmilar to the usage but instead of describing how the item can be used instad describe how to find the item. Again this title is done by using ==Obtaining== again notice the two (==) between the text. Things that can be included in this can be:
Found in desks.
Can be crafted with the following recipe:

Result As a Component INT
ITEM ITEM x1 + ITEM x1 + ITEM x1 60

That leads to our next segment. Crafting!

Crafting

Crafting is much less confusing. It can be done by using this code:

Result !! As a Component !! INT
Crafted Item || Item Required x1 + Item Required x1 + Item Required || Stats/INT

There are a few things you can do with this. Firstly if the item is used in making an item used As a Component if the item is made with using the items use Components. Next thing to do is change the Crafted item to what you get from the craft, then change the Item Required to what is used in the craft. The last thing is if your going to show more than one caft just add another:

Crafted Item || Item Required x1 + Item Required x1 + Item Required || Stats/INT

before the '|}'. Heres an example of what it will look like with more recipes:

Result !! As a Component !! INT
Crafted Item || Item Required x1 + Item Required x1 + Item Required || Stats/INT
Crafted Item || Item Required x1 + Item Required x1 + Item Required || Stats/INT

And this is what it looks like with items:

Result Components INT Defense
Guard Outfit.png Guard Outfit Jar of Ink.png Jar of Ink x1 + Infirmary Overalls.png Infirmary Overalls x1 50 +1

Trivia

Trivia is not used very often and is only used if the item is a reference to something an example of this can be found at Penarium Barrel.

Notes

Notes is used to describe certain things that don't fit under 'Usage' or 'Obtaining'

Bugs

This is again not used very often and is only used if there is a bug in the item. Again an example of this can be found at Penarium Barrel.

Additional Information

So your almost done! but there are a few more things you should know. The first thing is if you talk about another item you should link it by surrounding the items name with [[]] for example:
Roll of Duct Tape turns into Roll of Duct Tape

The next thing is that if you see a item in red it means that the page hasn't been created. For example:
PAGENAME

The third thing is if you talk about the item you are writing about surround it in PAGENAME for example:
This page is called Item Page Template. Becomes: This page is called Item Page Template.

The forth thing is that if something is only included in the console versions before you talk about it use Console only This is what it looks like:

PhoneController.png Console and Mobile Only: This information applies only to the Console version and Mobile version of The Escapists.

and and example of this can be found at Dead Rat.

The last thing is that if you are talking about a The Escapists: The Walking Dead item instad of using

Use this instead:

So that's it! We here at The Escapists wiki hope you help out the wiki and make it enjoyable for everyone. If you have any questions please post them on my talk page at: User talk:UnderTheRubble and if you have any issues post them on the The Escapists Wiki:Admin noticeboard.
